Your backups are in danger! But not from cyber criminals…

So, imagine the panic UniSuper had, when they found out that Google Cloud had accidentally deleted their customer account, for no apparent reason. With a full restoration not happening for 13 days, Google Cloud CEO, Thomas Kurian even had to make a statement, which explained that it was a ‘one-of-a-kind occurrence, and that they are taking measures to ensure that it does not happen again.  

Kurian also stated, “the disruption arose from an unprecedented sequence of events whereby an inadvertent misconfiguration during provisioning of UniSuper’s Private Cloud services ultimately resulted in the deletion of UniSuper’s Private Cloud subscription”.

UniSuper luckily had another backup of its data elsewhere, meaning that the Google deletion did not completely rid them of their important data.
