Campbell Dallas LLP

Chartered accountants

Campbell Dallas LLP is a dynamic and progressive firm of independent Chartered Accountants. Campbell Dallas originally engaged with Backup Systems: when they decided to review their backup and business continuity processes. At the point of review they only used a tape drive and had no off-site offering to the business in the event of a major outage. The firm was looking for a backup solution that was quicker, more successful, more manageable, and ultimately more cost effective than their existing tape-based methods.

Solution

Campbell Douglas decided to invest in an off-site half rack at a tier 3 data centre and this would provide the off-site element of their business continuity requirement. Campbell Dallas LLP has invested in a virtual environment using Citrix as their hypervisor. They purchased two large data servers with one based on the LAN and the other based on the WAN at the data centre. We installed our system to provide locally backed-up data and off-site data backups varying from full to granular backups, including the backing up of the virtual server images.

Out of peak times the data from the backup on the LAN is then trickled up to Campbell Dallas’s off-site storage, the overhead of which is reduced by using deduplication software. Both the LAN and WAN solutions were built on site locally, and full backups completed. The WAN server was then shipped to the remote site and system was implemented with a status report delivered 6 days per week as requested.

Results

Campbell Dallas LLP now have backup data locally on site and off, and are developing a further strategy to compliment this service. “While you never hope to implement your full business continuity plan, one of the unique selling points of Backup Systems for me was the ability to use their system for restoring (at a granular level) deleted emails that can be achieved in minutes. The restoring of live data is equally effortless and we use these very often,” says Billy Douglas.
