When the system backs up a server, or data area on a server, it creates a point in time snapshot. These snapshots are accessible in exactly the same way as the current backup, allowing you to get back data as it was days or weeks ago.
The device does not duplicate identical files but it presents the data to the user as a complete file tree. Any number of these snapshots can be kept on the device - space permitting. Typically 20 days are kept on-site.
The same process is run on data kept at our data-center. We keep 1 year as standard, or longer if required. The version history of each file held with us can be accessed via the web-site.
